Circle of Friends Animal Society passes the 2000 dog & cat spay / neuter / medical assistance milestone

Circle of Friends Animal Society has invested just under $150,000 since 2018 in our community to support these vital spay / neuter / medical assistance programs
Circle of Friends Animal Society (COFAS) is happy to announce assisting 2039 dogs & cats and their individual owners with their spay / neuter procedures and emergency medical needs in the November 2018 thru June 2023 timeframe.  The 2039 dogs & cats are individually owned and does not include the 1000+ foster animals that are taken into our program annually. COFAS  believes that no family should be required to make difficult pet ownership decisions due to cost issues.  To that end and with a fantastic support team, COFAS created multiple programs to assist area residents. Information on all of Circle of Friends Animal Society programs may be accessed via our website, cofas.org, by contacting us via email, info@cofas.org, or calling the spay / neuter information line, 706.688.9010. While the number of supporters are too many to list, four groups make these programs possible: Durham Veterinary Clinic, Greene County Animal Control, Putnam County Animal Services, and Lake Oconee Animal Hospital. Circle of Friends Animal Society is a Georgia 501(c)3 non-profit organization staffed with only volunteers that love animals, no paid positions.  COFAS happily welcomes donations to support these and our other community programs.

GREENE ANIMALS IN NEED – Dog Houses

There are animals in Greene County that need our help! These pets are loved and have homes, but their owners are unable to fully care for their basic needs. COFAS (Circle of Friends Animal Society) have been doing all we possibly can by supplying dog houses, food and medical supplies, but it is not enough. This crisis has inspired us to start GAIN. The mission of GAIN (Greene Animals in Need) is to assist pet owners who are in poverty, in the midst of a short-term emergency, financial setback, or are simply one vet bill away from giving away a beloved pet. No one should have to give up a pet because they cannot afford basic necessities! Dog houses are the focus of GAIN. Some outdoor dogs in our community have inadequate shelter, or NO SHELTER AT ALL. A dog house with hay inside can make the difference between suffering and comfort for a dog outside and provide shelter from rain and sun. Our mission is to purchase 20+ dog houses and hay for bedding. Durable plastic dog houses are the most economical way to provide shelter, and are easy to clean and store. Sam at Greene County Animal Control has offered to store them and will work with us and COFAS delivering them to pets in need. IF YOU SEE A DOG IN GREENE COUNTY IN NEED OF SHELTER, PLEASE CALL SAM at ANIMAL CONTROL – 706-454-7039. Used dog houses in good condition will be gratefully accepted!! To quote Sam at Animal Control…., “Greene County Animal Control works in partnership with Circle of Friends to help animals in our community”. We fully support GAIN to provide even more assistance for our pets in need”. If you are not familiar with COFAS, they have been quietly at work in the Lake Oconee area for more than 11 years. COFAS is a small, all-volunteer 501(c) (3) rescue group with little funding. They do not turn away a dog in need, regardless of size, age, needs heartworm treatment or even if the dog is disabled.
